The Glossopteris are a prehistoric order of seed ferns that lived around 300 to 200 million years ago. They derive their name from the Greek words for “tongue” and “fern” due to their leaves being tongue-shaped! They were the largest and best-known genus of the prehistoric order of seed ferns and could grow to a staggering 30 metres (98ft) tall! They favoured a swampy habitat, and had leaves which could grow up to around a meter in length!
