Fossilized baltic amber copal with fly insect inclusion – genuine specimen

Original price was: £25.20.Current price is: £20.16.

(Actual as seen)

This is 56-33.9 million year old Baltic amber which houses an inclusion.

Amber Inclusions are unfortunate animals, insects, plants etc. which became entombed in tree resin (not tree sap) millions of years ago. With the inclusion engulfed, the resin slowly hardened through a natural polymerization of the original organic compounds. This hardened material is known as Copal, which preserves the inclusion perfectly. Through time the Copal becomes buried and, over a several million year process, slowly turns into what we know as Amber. Incredibly this process has allowed us to marvel at ancient specimens frozen in time, as if captured only yesterday.

GRADE ‘C’: Amber pieces contain good quality inclusions that will require the aid of a magnifying lens to be viewed in great detail.

We would always suggest using a magnifying aid to view your specimen to truly appreciate the inclusions stunning frozen detail. Inclusions can include such specimens as flies, gnats, midges, beetles, wasps, ants, spiders, seeds, plants & more!

Please note: Amber with inclusions are regarded as collectible specimens, making them highly sought after, with a varying level in price dependent on the size &/or type of inclusion entombed. Amber comes in all shapes & sizes, as do the inclusions present inside. Some of which can be small insects such as gnats, ants, midges etc. and to view them in great detail may require the aid of a hand lens. Amber which includes larger inclusions which are easily visible to the naked eye would be substantially more expensive in the open market & classed more as ‘museum pieces’.
