This crystal is a genuine specimen and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card.

Mineral Type & Scientific Classification

Tiger Eye is a variety of Quartz (Silicon Dioxide – SiO₂) that belongs to the chalcedony family, composed of microcrystalline quartz. Quartz crystallises in the trigonal crystal system, although Tiger Eye itself forms in massive, fibrous aggregates rather than visible crystal points.

Tiger Eye forms through a geological process known as pseudomorphism, where quartz gradually replaces fibrous crocidolite (a type of amphibole) while retaining its original fibrous structure. Iron oxidation during this process produces the characteristic golden to brown colour tones.

With a Mohs hardness of approximately 6.5–7, Tiger Eye is durable and suitable for carving into decorative forms such as obelisks and towers.

Chatoyancy & Visual Features

The most notable feature of Tiger Eye is its chatoyancy, also known as the “cat’s eye effect.” This optical phenomenon appears as a moving band of light across the surface when the stone is rotated under light.

This obelisk may display:

• Golden brown to honey tones
• Silky, fibrous banding
• Reflective chatoyant sheen
• Opaque structure with polished finish

The obelisk’s flat polished faces enhance the shifting light effect, creating dynamic visual interest from different viewing angles. Natural variations in colour depth and banding make each piece unique.

Geological Formation

Tiger Eye forms in metamorphic environments where crocidolite fibres become embedded within silica-rich solutions. Over time, quartz replaces the original fibrous mineral structure molecule by molecule, preserving the fibrous alignment responsible for chatoyancy.

Iron content within the stone oxidises during formation, contributing to its warm golden and brown hues. Deposits are commonly associated with metamorphic rock formations.

The material used for this obelisk has been cut and polished from naturally formed Tiger Eye.

Obelisk Form & Traditional Associations

The obelisk shape features a flat base and four polished sides tapering to a defined apex. This structured form allows stable upright display while highlighting the internal fibrous structure and reflective bands.

Tiger Eye has been traditionally associated in spiritual symbolism with strength and confidence. These interpretations are cultural and symbolic rather than scientific.

This Tiger Eye Obelisk Point is suitable for:

• Mineral and crystal collections
• Quartz and metamorphic mineral enthusiasts
• Decorative home or office display
• Meditation or symbolic spaces
• Unique gemstone gifts
