Description

Genuine Hand Carved Labradorite Spider

This listing features a beautifully hand-carved spider made from natural Labradorite, a highly prized feldspar mineral renowned for its striking iridescent play of colours, known as labradorescence. Each piece is carefully chosen to highlight the finest natural qualities of the stone, with skilled craftsmanship bringing out the intricate details of the spider form. The result is a unique collectable item that blends artistry with natural mineral beauty.

The photographs provided show an actual example of the carving you will receive. A 1 cm scale cube is included for reference, with full measurements available in the images. Each specimen comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring the genuine nature of both the carving and the mineral from which it is made.

Geological Context of Labradorite

Labradorite is a member of the plagioclase feldspar group, discovered originally in Labrador, Canada, but now sourced from several locations worldwide, including Madagascar, Finland, and Russia. Its distinctive optical effect, known as labradorescence, arises from light interference within its internal crystal structure, producing vivid flashes of blue, green, gold, and sometimes violet.

Geologically, Labradorite forms in igneous rocks such as basalts and gabbros and in some metamorphic environments. Its shimmering appearance has made it one of the most desired decorative stones, widely used in jewellery, carvings, and mineral collections. The interplay of light across the carved spider’s surface ensures each piece displays its own unique flashes of colour, making no two specimens alike.

Mineral Features and Morphology

This hand-carved Labradorite spider showcases the natural beauty of the mineral through both its polished surfaces and detailed sculpting. The body of the spider reveals shifting iridescence as the stone is moved, with flashes of blue and green often dominating. The craftsmanship highlights the legs, cephalothorax, and abdomen, producing a lifelike representation of the arachnid while preserving the stone’s natural textures.

Key traits of the Labradorite spider carving include:

  • Distinctive labradorescence – vibrant colour play visible under different light angles.

  • Hand-crafted artistry – each carving is unique, showcasing individual detail.

  • Durable mineral base – Labradorite’s hardness and stability make it ideal for detailed carvings.

  • Natural crystal structure – highlighting the feldspar mineral’s internal light-reflecting properties.

Cultural and Collecting Importance

Labradorite has long been associated with mystical and protective qualities, often described as a “stone of transformation” in metaphysical traditions. Its striking flashes of colour have made it a favourite among collectors of both minerals and hand-crafted gemstone carvings. The spider form adds further layers of symbolism, often representing creativity, patience, and interconnectedness across cultures.

This carving makes an excellent addition to mineral collections, crystal healing assortments, or decorative displays. For collectors, it represents the rare fusion of natural mineral beauty with the symbolism of one of nature’s most intricate creatures. Whether admired for its craftsmanship, mineralogical features, or metaphysical associations, it stands as a distinctive and eye-catching specimen.
