Labradorite, a feldspar mineral, can display an iridescent optical effect (or Schiller) known as labradorescence. It is an intermediate to calcic member of the plagioclase series. The streak is white, like most silicates. As with all plagioclase members, the crystal system is triclinic. It occurs as clear, white to gray, blocky to lath shaped grains in common mafic igneous rocks such as basalt and gabbro, as well as in anorthosites.

This is a hand made, professional crafted piece beautiful spider on Rock. It is made from 100% Labradorite

Hand Made Labradorite Spider Carving – Natural Feldspar Mineral Sculpture

This striking Labradorite Spider Carving is a hand made mineral sculpture crafted from genuine natural labradorite. Carefully chosen for its colour play and carving detail, this piece comes from the Alice Purnell Collection and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card. The photographs show the exact specimen you will receive, and full sizing details are provided in the listing images.

Combining natural mineral beauty with skilled craftsmanship, this labradorite spider carving is both a collectible crystal specimen and a decorative art piece.

Mineral Information – Labradorite Feldspar

Labradorite is a calcium-sodium feldspar belonging to the plagioclase feldspar series. It crystallises in the triclinic crystal system and is best known for its remarkable optical effect known as labradorescence.

Labradorescence is caused by light interference within microscopic lamellar structures inside the stone. When light strikes the surface at certain angles, flashes of blue, green, gold, or grey can appear across the mineral. This natural iridescence makes labradorite one of the most visually distinctive feldspar minerals.

The base colour of labradorite is typically grey to dark charcoal, often with shimmering internal colour zones revealed under direct light. With a Mohs hardness of approximately 6 to 6.5, labradorite is durable enough for carving and display, while still requiring care to protect its polished surfaces.

Geological Formation

Labradorite forms in igneous rocks such as basalt, gabbro, and anorthosite. It develops during the slow cooling of magma, allowing feldspar crystals to grow within the host rock. Major deposits are found in regions such as Madagascar, Canada, Finland, and Russia, with Madagascar being especially well known for producing highly labradorescent material suitable for carving.

The carving process enhances the stone’s natural colour flashes, as curved surfaces allow shifting light angles to reveal multiple tones across the sculpture.

The Spider Carving – Craftsmanship and Symbolism

This hand carved spider sculpture showcases detailed shaping and polishing to highlight the mineral’s natural beauty. The spider form is popular in mineral art due to its striking silhouette and fine detail potential.

In various cultures, spiders have been traditionally associated with creativity and symbolism in a spiritual sense, though this piece is primarily valued as a decorative mineral carving and collectible art object.

The polished finish enhances the natural sheen of the labradorite, allowing its internal colour play to stand out against the darker base tones.

Collector Appeal and Display Use

This Labradorite Spider Carving is ideal for:

  • Mineral and crystal collectors

  • Labradorite and feldspar enthusiasts

  • Decorative mineral art displays

  • Unique gift ideas for collectors

  • Gothic, nature-inspired, or themed décor

Its compact size and sculptural detail make it suitable for display cabinets, desks, shelves, or curated mineral collections.
