Name: Somerset Ammonite
Location: Somerset, United Kingdom
These Somerset ammonites are predominantly Hildoceras sp., but may include some other ammonite species that inhabited the Somerset region during the Jurassic period.
Ammonites are one of the most recognisable fossils around the world due to their familiar spiral shape. They were marine based, present between 240 – 65 million years ago. They are the most popular fossil for collections and found all over the world. Some ammonites could reach up to 2 metres in size. Children love collecting them, and places like Lyme Regis in Dorset becomes busy during the summer months with many people trying their luck at finding impressions in the rocks of their own ammonites.MAY DIFFER TO PHOTO: The image shows an example of the single specimen you will receive. This will be picked from our stock box graded and with a size approximately within the size range indicated. It will not be the same specimen shown in the photo, the colours, shape, size and style may vary as with any natural item. To guarantee the specimen you receive will be representative by that in photo, we would always recommend the Actual as seen version of this item.

I was a bit suprised when I got mine, It’s only a very small part of the bottom of the ammonite, with a length of only 10mm (and a width of about 25mm), the rest just seems to be normal stone.
Though I don’t mind it that much because since it’s only the bottom of the ammonite, the top part seems to be broken off and you can see 2 holes inside the fossil wich I find pretty cool
Not really what I expected, But pretty cool nonetheless!
