The photograph shows the exact specimen you will receive. Please refer to the listing images for full sizing and proportions.

This crystal is a genuine specimen and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card.

Mineral Type & Scientific Classification

Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral belonging to the feldspathoid group, with the chemical formula Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂. It crystallises in the isometric (cubic) crystal system, although it most commonly occurs in massive granular form rather than well-defined crystals.

Unlike quartz, Sodalite forms in silica-poor igneous environments. The terminated pencil shape of this piece has been cut and polished from a naturally occurring massive Sodalite specimen while preserving its internal mineral structure and colour patterns.

Sodalite has a Mohs hardness of approximately 5.5–6, making it suitable for carving and polishing into decorative forms.

Colour, Pattern & Surface Characteristics

This Sodalite Terminated Pencil may display:

• Deep royal blue to indigo tones
• Natural white calcite veining
• Opaque to slightly translucent areas
• Smooth polished surfaces
• Defined pointed termination

The blue colour is caused by the presence of sulphur within the mineral’s structure. White veining is typically calcite, naturally intergrown within the stone. The balance between blue base colour and white patterning varies from specimen to specimen, ensuring each piece is unique.

The polished faces enhance the colour contrast and create a smooth, reflective surface ideal for display.

Geological Formation

Sodalite forms in igneous rocks, particularly in silica-poor intrusive environments such as nepheline syenites and other alkaline igneous formations. It develops as magma cools slowly beneath the Earth’s surface, allowing feldspathoid minerals to crystallise.

Notable deposits occur in regions including Brazil, Canada, Namibia, and parts of Europe. The material used for this terminated pencil has been cut and polished from naturally formed Sodalite.

Terminated Pencil Shape & Traditional Associations

The terminated pencil form features a flat base and elongated sides tapering to a defined point. This geometric design allows upright display while showcasing the natural blue and white mineral patterning across multiple polished faces.

Sodalite has been traditionally associated in spiritual symbolism with insight and self-expression. These interpretations are cultural and symbolic rather than scientific.

This Sodalite Terminated Pencil Point is suitable for:

• Mineral and feldspathoid collections
• Decorative home or office display
• Educational geology collections
• Crystal grid arrangements
• Unique gemstone gifts
