Description

Introducing a VERY RARE and scientifically significant fossil heteromorph ammonite: Toxoceratoides taylori, from the Aptian Stage of the Early Cretaceous, collected from the renowned Walsh River site in Queensland, Australia. This unique piece is part of the prestigious Alice Purnell Collection, known for its expertly curated and accurately identified fossil specimens.

Toxoceratoides taylori is a heteromorph ammonite species, exhibiting uncoiled or loosely coiled shell morphology, which deviates from the typical planispiral ammonite form. The genus is placed within the family Ancyloceratidae, under the superfamily Ancyloceratoidea, and order Ammonitida. These ammonites are well-known for their distinctive, often loosely helically coiled or hooked shells.

Geological & Scientific Details:

  • Scientific Name: Toxoceratoides taylori

  • Geological Period: Cretaceous
  • Geological Stage: Aptian (~125–113 million years ago)
