Crystal Type & Species: Peridot is the gem-quality variety of the mineral Olivine, a magnesium iron silicate (Mg₂SiO₄). It typically forms in granular to crystalline habits and displays a distinctive olive-green hue. Magnetite (Fe₃O₄) is an iron oxide mineral with a metallic luster and strong natural magnetism, often appearing as black octahedral crystals or coatings. This rare association of Peridot and Magnetite occurs naturally in pegmatitic and mafic igneous environments.

Geology: The Supat Mine in the Mansehra District of northern Pakistan is part of the Himalayan tectonic belt, where ultramafic and mafic rocks create ideal conditions for the formation of gem-quality Peridot. These peridot-bearing veins are often hosted in dunite and pyroxenite bodies. Magnetite may crystallise alongside peridot during late-stage cooling, forming striking contrasts between bright green crystals and black metallic inclusions or clusters.
