Geology & Formation:
Erythrite is a secondary mineral formed through the oxidation of cobalt-bearing arsenides, most commonly associated with hydrothermal vein systems. It typically appears in the upper oxidised zones of cobalt and nickel-rich deposits. In the UK, Wales has produced fine erythrite crystals from historic mining regions where cobalt mineralisation occurred alongside copper and arsenic ores. The intense coloration is due to its cobalt content, and it is a visual indicator of cobalt presence in geological environments.
