Description

Offered here is a RARE double ammonite fossil of Taramelliceras composum, collected from the Lower Kimmeridgian stage of the Late Jurassic period, near Niort in the Deux-Sèvres region of France. Specimens featuring two ammonites preserved together are particularly desirable due to their rarity and display appeal.

You will receive the exact specimen shown in the photo, with a 1cm scale cube included for full sizing reference. This is a 100% genuine fossil, professionally sourced and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Geological & Scientific Information:

  • Species: Taramelliceras composum (double specimen)
  • Type: Fossil Ammonite (extinct marine cephalopod)
  • Geological Period: Jurassic
  • Stage: Lower Kimmeridgian (approx. 157–155 million years ago)
  • Location Found: Niort, Deux-Sèvres, France
  • Order: Ammonitida
  • Superfamily: Perisphinctoidea
  • Family: Aspidoceratidae (tentative)
  • Morphological Features: Taramelliceras features planispiral, evolute shells with finely ribbed flanks and periodic tuberculate ornamentation. Both ammonites in this specimen display excellent preservation with clear ribbing and whorl exposure, allowing full appreciation of their morphology.
  • Depositional Environment: Calm, shallow marine conditions with marl and fine limestone deposits. These sediments facilitated exceptional fossil preservation during the Late Jurassic in this region of western France.
  • Scientific Importance: Taramelliceras is a biostratigraphically useful genus in European Kimmeridgian strata. Its distinctive morphology contributes to the classification and correlation of Jurassic ammonite zones.

Additional Notes:

Double ammonite specimens like this are not only scientifically informative but also visually striking. This piece is perfect for collectors looking for a centrepiece fossil or an example of ammonite pairing within a natural matrix.
