Natural Sodalite Crystal – Blue Feldspathoid Mineral from Pakistan

This genuine Sodalite specimen from Pakistan is a natural blue feldspathoid mineral, carefully selected for colour contrast, pattern, and display quality. Each piece measures approximately 30–40mm, making it ideal for mineral collectors, educational collections, or decorative display. The photograph shows an example of the actual specimen you will receive. Please refer to the listing images for full sizing and expected natural variation within this range.

Your Sodalite crystal includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card, confirming it is a 100% genuine natural mineral specimen.

Mineral Species & Chemical Composition

Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral belonging to the feldspathoid group, with the chemical formula Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂. It crystallises in the isometric (cubic) crystal system, although it most commonly occurs in massive or granular form rather than as well-defined crystals.

As a feldspathoid, Sodalite forms in silica-poor, sodium-rich igneous environments. It is chemically related to feldspar but differs in its lower silica content. The distinctive deep blue colour is due to the presence of sulfur within the crystal lattice, which creates the characteristic intense hue.

Sodalite ranks 5.5–6 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it moderately durable and suitable for display and collection.

Geological Formation – Pakistan

Pakistan is well known for producing a wide variety of mineral specimens, including high-quality Sodalite from igneous rock formations. Sodalite typically forms in alkaline intrusive rocks such as nepheline syenite and other silica-deficient magmatic environments.

During slow cooling of sodium-rich magma, Sodalite crystallises within the host rock alongside minerals such as nepheline, feldspar, calcite, and cancrinite. The geological conditions in parts of Pakistan provide favourable environments for the development of richly coloured Sodalite with attractive natural patterning.

Colour, Pattern & Physical Characteristics

These Sodalite specimens display classic rich blue tones, often interspersed with white calcite veining or lighter patches. This natural contrast enhances the visual appeal and makes each piece unique.

Key mineralogical properties include:

  • Mineral Group: Feldspathoid (Tectosilicate)

  • Chemical Formula: Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂

  • Crystal System: Isometric (Cubic)

  • Colour: Deep blue with white veining

  • Lustre: Vitreous to greasy

  • Transparency: Opaque

  • Hardness: 5.5–6 Mohs

Natural inclusions, colour zoning, and matrix patterns are typical features of authentic Sodalite and reflect its igneous origin. No artificial dyes or treatments have been applied.

Collecting & Display Appeal

Sodalite is highly valued by collectors for its bold blue colour and distinctive white veining. The 30–40mm size range makes these specimens suitable for mineral trays, display cases, study collections, or curated decorative arrangements.

Its intense blue colour often draws comparisons to lapis lazuli, though Sodalite has a distinct composition and crystal structure. Sodalite is traditionally associated in spiritual practices with clarity and insight; these associations are cultural rather than scientific.

Pakistani Sodalite is especially appreciated for its strong colour saturation and clean contrast patterns.

Authenticity & Individual Selection

Each Sodalite specimen is a carefully chosen genuine piece from Pakistan. The listing photograph shows an example of the actual specimen you will receive within the stated 30–40mm size range. Please review the images for scale and expected natural variation in colour and veining.

Every specimen is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card, confirming its genuine natural origin.

A classic example of sodium-rich igneous mineral formation, this Pakistani Sodalite specimen offers striking colour, geological interest, and collector appeal, making it a distinctive addition to any serious mineral collection.
