Description

Natural Larvikite Crystal Egg – Polished Feldspar-Rich Igneous Rock Specimen

This Natural Larvikite Crystal Egg is a genuine polished stone carved from larvikite, a distinctive feldspar-rich igneous rock known for its dark colour and subtle silvery-blue reflective flashes. Measuring approximately 45–50mm, the egg-shaped carving has been carefully polished to highlight the natural mineral patterns and shimmering feldspar crystals contained within the stone.

Each specimen is a carefully chosen genuine mineral piece, and the photo provided shows an example of the actual specimen you will receive. Every piece displays unique mineral patterning due to the natural structure of the rock. The crystal includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card, confirming the authenticity of the specimen.

For the exact measurements and proportions, please refer to the sizing shown in the photographs.

Geological Classification and Mineral Composition

Larvikite is a coarse-grained igneous rock primarily composed of feldspar minerals, particularly ternary feldspar, along with smaller amounts of nepheline, biotite, and other accessory minerals. It forms during the slow cooling of magma beneath the Earth’s surface, allowing crystals to develop within the rock mass.

This rock is part of the monzonite family of intrusive igneous rocks and is geologically significant for its distinctive mineral composition and optical properties.

Key geological characteristics include:

  • Rock Type: Intrusive igneous rock

  • Primary Minerals: Feldspar (ternary feldspar), nepheline, biotite

  • Formation Environment: Slow cooling magma beneath the Earth’s surface

  • Texture: Coarse-grained crystalline structure

  • Hardness: Approximately 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale depending on mineral content

  • Lustre: Subtle vitreous to pearly reflections from feldspar crystals

Larvikite is sometimes commercially associated with decorative stone and architectural applications because of its striking appearance when polished.

Origin and Geological Locality

Larvikite is most famously sourced from Larvik in southern Norway, where large geological formations of this rock were created during ancient magmatic activity approximately 298 million years ago during the Permian geological period.

The rock formed within deep intrusive bodies associated with the Oslo Rift geological province, where volcanic and magmatic processes produced a range of unusual alkaline igneous rocks.

Larvikite from this region has become internationally recognised as Norway’s national stone, valued for both its geological significance and decorative appearance.

Optical Features and Mineral Structure

One of the most notable characteristics of larvikite is the subtle reflective effect produced by its feldspar crystals. When polished, the stone often displays
