Labradorite Worry Stone / Palm Stone – Natural Feldspar Crystal

This Labradorite Worry Stone, also known as a palm stone, is a genuine natural feldspar specimen shaped and polished to highlight its distinctive optical effect. The photograph shows the exact piece you will receive, carefully chosen for its colour flash and overall finish. Full sizing details are available in the listing photos. Your crystal includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card, confirming it as an authentic natural mineral specimen.

Mineral Type & Crystal Species

Labradorite is a member of the plagioclase feldspar series, with a chemical composition typically expressed as (Ca,Na)(Al,Si)₄O₈. It crystallises in the triclinic crystal system and forms as part of the feldspar group, one of the most abundant mineral families in the Earth’s crust.

The most notable feature of labradorite is its labradorescence, an iridescent optical phenomenon caused by light reflecting and refracting within microscopic lamellar structures inside the crystal. This internal structure results from exsolution lamellae formed during slow cooling. Depending on the specimen, flashes of blue, green, gold, or even orange may appear when the stone is rotated in light.

Labradorite typically ranges from grey to dark grey in base colour and may be opaque to slightly translucent along thinner edges. It measures approximately 6–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and exhibits a vitreous to slightly pearly lustre when polished.

Worry Stone / Palm Stone Shape

This specimen has been carved into a smooth palm stone shape, designed to sit comfortably in the hand. The gently curved surface enhances the natural labradorescence by allowing light to move across the stone’s face. As the angle changes, flashes of colour can appear and shift across the surface.

The polished finish emphasises both the base colour and the internal reflective layers. Natural inclusions, subtle fractures, or tonal variations are part of the mineral’s geological character and make each piece unique.

Geological Formation

Labradorite forms in igneous rocks such as basalt, gabbro, and anorthosite, where feldspar minerals crystallise from cooling magma. The internal lamellar structure responsible for labradorescence develops as the mineral cools and sodium and calcium components separate into thin layers.

Significant deposits of labradorite are found in Canada, Madagascar, Finland, and other regions with large anorthosite complexes. The stone is named after Labrador, Canada, where it was first identified in the 18th century.

Associated minerals in labradorite-bearing rocks may include pyroxene, olivine, and other plagioclase feldspars.

Optical & Physical Characteristics

When polished, labradorite displays a smooth surface that enhances its reflective quality. The intensity and colour of the flash vary depending on the angle of light and the thickness of the internal lamellae. Some specimens show broad areas of colour, while others display more subtle flashes.

The palm stone form provides a wide surface area to showcase this optical effect, making it ideal for display or handling.

Traditional & Cultural Associations

Labradorite has been traditionally associated in various cultures with transformation and intuition in symbolic practices. It is often chosen for decorative crystal displays or meditation spaces. These associations are cultural and belief-based rather than scientific.

Ideal for Collectors & Gifting

This Labradorite Palm Stone makes a striking addition to any mineral collection or interior décor arrangement. Its natural iridescent flash and smooth finish create a visually engaging display piece suitable for desks, shelves, or cabinets.

You will receive the exact specimen shown in the photographs, securely packaged and presented with a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee card. A genuine labradorite feldspar carving, selected for quality, flash, and craftsmanship.
