Danburite is a calcium boron silicate mineral with an orthorhombic crystal form. It is usually colourless, like quartz. Its crystal symmetry and form are similar to topaz; however, topaz is a calcium fluorine bearing nesosilicate. The clarity, resilience, and strong dispersion of danburite make it valuable as cut stones for jewellery. It is named for Danbury, Connecticut, United States, where it was first discovered in 1839 by Charles Upham Shephard.

Description

Danburite Crystal – Natural Mexican Mineral Specimen

This genuine Danburite crystal from Mexico is a beautiful and highly collectible mineral specimen, admired for its clarity, elegant prismatic form, and naturally terminated crystal structure. Danburite is a borosilicate mineral prized by collectors for its bright lustre and gem-like appearance, often occurring as transparent to translucent crystals with clean faces and strong termination points.

You will receive the exact specimen shown in the photographs. This crystal has been carefully chosen for its overall quality, natural form, and display appeal. Full sizing is available in the listing photos. This is a genuine mineral specimen and includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card.

Mineral Identity & Scientific Classification

Danburite is a calcium boron silicate mineral with the chemical formula CaB₂(SiO₄)₂. It belongs to the sorosilicate mineral group and crystallises in the orthorhombic crystal system. Its crystals typically form as elongated prisms with well-developed terminations, making them visually striking and easy to recognise.

Danburite is valued for its vitreous lustre and high transparency in many specimens. Its crystal habit can resemble topaz or quartz, but its borosilicate composition and orthorhombic symmetry distinguish it scientifically.

Natural Danburite may show subtle internal inclusions or growth features that reflect authentic geological formation.

Geological Formation & Mexican Locality

Mexico is one of the world’s most notable sources of fine Danburite crystals, particularly from regions where hydrothermal mineralisation occurs in limestone host rocks. Danburite commonly forms in skarn deposits, which develop when hot, mineral-rich fluids interact with carbonate rocks during contact metamorphism.

These geological environments create ideal conditions for boron-rich minerals to crystallise, often alongside other well-known species such as:

• Calcite
• Quartz
• Fluorite
• Garnet
• Wollastonite

Mexican Danburite is especially appreciated for producing well-formed crystals with bright clarity and sharp terminations, making specimens from this region highly sought after in the collector market.

Colour, Clarity & Optical Features

Danburite is typically colourless to pale yellow, champagne, or faint pink depending on trace elements within the crystal lattice. Many specimens display excellent transparency, giving them a gem-like quality even in natural mineral form.

Key visual characteristics may include:

• Clear to translucent crystal body
• Smooth prismatic faces with natural growth striations
• Sharp, multi-faceted terminations
• Bright vitreous lustre under light

The crystal’s reflective surfaces and clean structure make it an outstanding display mineral, especially when showcased in a cabinet or under focused lighting.

Collecting, Display & Gifting Appeal

Danburite is prized by mineral collectors for its combination of rarity, crystal quality, and elegant appearance. Its naturally terminated points and bright clarity make it a standout specimen for:

• Mineral and gemstone collections
• Display cabinets or shelves
• Educational geology study
• Unique gifts for crystal enthusiasts

In spiritual traditions, Danburite is traditionally associated with clarity and calm reflection; these interpretations are cultural and belief-based rather than scientific or medical claims.

Whether acquired for its geological significance, collector value, or decorative presence, this Mexican Danburite crystal offers a remarkable example of natural Earth-formed beauty.
