Specimen: Stone Age Hand Axe
Age: Tenerean Culture 5200-2500 BC
Location Found: Niger, Western Africa
This Stone Age Hand Axe is made from flint, making it extremely strong, and would have been essential when collecting wood, or chopping meat and bone from a kill, possibly even being used to assist in the killing of the prey being hunted! The Stone Age was a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make implements with an edge, a point, or a percussion surface. The period lasted roughly 3.4 million years and ended between 8700 BCE and 2000 BCE with the advent of metalworking.
