Name: Onchosaurus numidus
Species: Sawfish
Specimen: Sawfish Rostral Spine
Age: Albian, Cretaceous
Location Found: South of Taouz, Kem-Kem basin, Morocco

This Rostral Spine, or Denticle, is from a prehistoric Sawfish that is found in Cretaceous deposits throughout North Africa. Although the spines are barbed (unlike today’s Sawfish spines which are not barbed), the rostrum (snout; from which the spines protrude from) is thought to have served the same purpose as today’s Sawfish, for sensing and stunning prey, as well as defence.

ACTUAL AS SEENThe image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions.

Fascinating fossil which was packaged well and came really quickly, a few minor cracks on the fossil that were not visible on pictures are my only complaint however, these seem like delicate fossils
