Name: Melo melo
Location: Burma to the Philippines
A massive shell almost at foot long . It must have made a feast of a lunch for some family. Excellent shell for planting as a feature in a conservatory or direct into a garden border. This selected melon shell comes from a traceable source and provides an excellent base for crafts and interior/exterior design.
Melon shells thrive in relatively shallow waters and prefer to inhabit muddy bottoms often around mangrove swamps. Their worldwide distribution is quite limited, however, the shells are collected as a food source by subsistence fishing communities from Burma to the Philippines.
The shells can often be seen in rural markets used to measure out rusks and grain, whilst off-shore, the shells are referred to as bailers, due to their capacity to store water and their use to bail out boats.ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT unique specimen you will receive. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device.
