Specimen: Carcharodon Megalodon chunks

Genus: Shark

Age: Miocene

Location: USA

Size (picture scale cube=1cm): 44 x 17 x 80mm (1.73 x 0.67 x 3.15 inches)

Chunks consist of parts, quarts and sections of teeth as found where collected.

Carcharodon Megalodon (Megalodon meaning “Big Tooth”) is an extinct species of shark that is regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history, who lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. Fossil remains suggest that this giant shark reached a length of 18 metres (59 ft), this make the Megalodon nearly 3 times as long, and 20 times and heavy as the modern day Great White Shark.

When a sharks teeth become worn the predator will ‘shred’ these teeth, and these will be replaced with new sharper, stronger teeth. However, unlike humans, Sharks are known for shedding hundreds of teeth on a regular basis, which makes them a fruitful find with fossil hunters.

Fossilised shark teeth come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from only a few millimetres to some Megalodon teeth measuring well over 7 inches.

ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions.
