Specimen: Hematite Kidney Ore
Size (picture scale cube=1cm): 35 x 35 x 17mm (1.38 x 1.38 x 0.67 inches)
Hematite is the mineral form of iron oxide, one of several iron oxides. It is the oldest known iron oxide mineral that has ever formed on Earth. Hematite crystallizes in the rhombohedral lattice system, and it has the same crystal structure as ilmenite and corundum. It is mined as the main ore of iron.
Kidney Ore Hematite: Some hematite precipitates in cavities and has the opportunity to form an unrestricted habit. A habit known as ‘kidney ore’ often develops in cavities and is named for its similar visual appearance to an internal organ. This type of chemically precipitated hematite is often relatively uncontaminated with sedimentary clay or host rock inclusions and has a higher purity. The high purity makes this the hematite of choice for making pigments.
ACTUAL AS SEEN: The image shows the EXACT specimen you will receive. The specimen has been carefully hand selected and photographed. Measurements are as accurate as possible, though be aware measuring precise dimensions can be difficult from irregular shaped items. Whilst we portray colours as close to life-like as we can, colours will vary if taken in sunlight, indoors, from monitor to monitor and device to device. Once this specimen is sold, we will update this listing with new similar selected item, with a new photo and dimensions. We would suggest saving a screenshot of the items image as soon as purchased for your own records of comparison for once the item has been received in the post. We also keep a record of every image we upload.
