Agate is a variety of silica, characterised by its fineness of grain and brightness of colour. Agate is one of the most common materials used in the art of hardstone carving and are used to make ornaments such as pins, brooches or other types of jewellery, Most agates occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or ancient lavas.
- The vibrant coloured Agate slices, i.e Pink, Blue, Purple, are genuine agate but have been DYED this colour. Diamond saws are used to cut the Agate into slices which are then ground to remove any imperfections, then dyed and polished to help enhance and display the beautiful natural banding within.
- The ‘duller’ coloured Agate slices, i.e Brown, Black, Grey, are NATURAL Agate that has not had its colour enhanced in any way.
