Graptolite

Graptolites are fossil colonial animals who lived from the Upper Cambrian through the Lower Carboniferous Period. The name graptolite comes from the Greek graptos, meaning “written”, & lithos, meaning “rock”, as many graptolite fossils resemble hieroglyphs written on the rock.
